Bosnia or Bust

Map of Bosnia and HerzegovinaSome of you may wonder, “Why in the world, out of all of the world, did you choose to go to Bosnia?”  Well, there are many reasons, but we will give this to you in a nutshell.

About a year ago, after becoming convinced that we were supposed to pursue international missions, we realized that each of us individually had a passion for Eastern Europe.  We bought a laminated world map, some dry erase markers, and linked to CIA World Factbook online to spend several weeks praying over and studying about each nation in that part of the world.

Later, we were invited to a mission conference with Operation Mobilization (OM for short; you can go to their website on the link to the left) in Atlanta for a week.  At this conference, there were a couple of things that we were able to decide.  First, we knew that we wanted to be a part of the work that OM is doing in the world.  Next, God opened our eyes to the work He is doing in Bosnia.

We believe that many people in Bosnia are missing hope in more ways than one.  They are missing a temporary hope that has been stripped from them due to years and years of ethnic conflict and war.  More pressing, we feel that many are lacking an eternal hope found in “Christ…the hope of glory.”  We know, that as followers of Christ, we are loved and valued by God the Father and can look forward to enjoying Him forever.  It is our hope and desire to show this, through relationships and service, to the beloved people of Bosnia.  God the Father loves them and we want them to know it!

Initially, our commitment with OM Bosnia is for two years.  Here is a brief breakdown of that time:

First Year:

  • we will be matched with a “care family” that will help us practice the language and learn the culture
  • language classes 5 days a week (that language is Bosnian, just in case you were wondering)
  • training in the Islamic, Catholic, and Orthodoxy faiths
  • learning effective tools for evangelism as well as opportunities to go into the community for this
  • Bible training 4 times in the year, 2 weeks at a time
  • attending weekend seminars 2 times in the year
  • being a part of evangelistic outreaches in both Bihac and Sarajevo and trained to lead and organize them

Second Year:

  • we will be placed with a church planting team in either Bihac or Sarajevo

We would love to tell you more about what we have been called and commanded to do through international missions.  You are invited to come alongside us in this work in several ways.  If you are interested, please go to our “Contact Us” page and fill out the form.  “Missions exist because worship does not.”  Please pray that the Lord reveals Himself in the places of the world where worship does not exist.  He is worthy!

To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. -Colossians 1:27
